Women on Wheels

Women only mountain bike program.

WHO

•   Geared at beginner to intermediate women cyclists who want to develop skills, fitness and confidence on a mountain bike.

WHAT

•   Learn trail etiquette, basic bike repairs and how to properly outfit yourself for the trails.

•   Develop the skills to become a safe and confident mountain biker able to tackle all types of riding conditions and terrain.

•   Receive training tips, riding tactics and nutritional advice. 

•   Improve fitness through cycling specific training.

•   Have fun and challenge yourself by riding with cyclists of similar interests and abilities.

•   Small groups of 3-6 riders per coach.

WHERE

•   Trails in the Bragg Creek area of Kananaskis Country

WHEN

•   Wednesdays

•   11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

•   May 17 - June 22 (6 weeks)

8 week Mountain Bike program focusing on Enduro and All Mountain riding and racing

You will need to ride your bike up before you go down so this is not geared at fully geared up Down Hill racing.  More for aggressive XC riding, All Mountain and Enduro type riders.  Most of the descending will be on the blue to black DH trails (7-27, Shaft, Race of Spades etc) with some progression to tougher descents.

Primary Coaches for this session:  Troy Delfs & Tara Walmsley

WHO

•   Intermediate to advanced mountain bikers

•   You should be able to ride at a steady to hard pace for at least 1 hour

•   There will be no shuttling, you need to be fit enough to ride your bikes up the hills and skilled enough to ride your bike down

WHAT

•   The focus of these rides will be on developing technical Down Hilling Skills

•   These sessions will be well planned, organized and challenging group rides

•   Get out for a good steady 1.5 - 2 hour training ride, taking in various trails in the Bragg Creek Area

•   Riders will be split into different ability based groups

•   Coaches will provide on bike instruction, feedback and encouragement

WHERE

•   On the trails in the Bragg Creek Region of Kananaskis Country – Primarily on Moose Mountain trails

WHEN

•   Thursdays

•   6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

•   May 11 - June 29 (8 weeks)

•   Intermediate to advanced mountain bikers

•   You should be able to ride at a steady to hard pace for at least 1+ hour

WHAT

•   The focus of these rides will be on developing fitness and XC riding skills

•   These sessions will be well planned, organized and challenging group rides

•   Get out for a good steady 1.5 - 2 hour training ride, taking in various trails in the Bragg Creek Area

•   Riders will be split into different ability based groups

•   Coaches will provide on bike instruction, feedback and encouragement

WHERE

•   On the trails in the Bragg Creek Region of Kananaskis Country

•   Tuesdays

-LET’S RACE-

2 Session Road Racing Clinic for competitive Women Road Racers  

Coaches for this session:  Troy Delfs & Suzanne Hamilton

WHO

•   All Categories of women road racers

•   Wether you are an experienced racer, or new to the sport, we are sure that you will learn skills, tactics and techniques that will make you a faster racer and more confident in the peloton.

WHAT

•   Two separate sessions that will focus on technical racing skills, tactics and training advice

•   We will do various riding drills on quiet roads that will allow you to perfect your skills

•   Coaches will provide on bike instruction, feedback and answer all of your questions

SESSION # 1 - Back to the Basics

•   These are skills that you have likely already learned, but it is always important to make sure you have mastered these critical skills

•  Individual riding skills focusing on:  bike position, balance, cadence, braking, climbing, descending, cornering

•   Group riding skills - pace lines, echelons, lead outs, crash avoidance

SESSION # 2 - Let’s Talk Tactics

•   How do you race to your strengths and limit your weaknesses?

•   We will work on skill, tactics and techniques that will help you achieve your best results 

•   We will use various drills to cover the topics of:

·       Sprinting from small and large groups

·       Should I attack? How, when and where?

·       How to race as a team

·       How to work with opponents to improve your position

WHERE

•   Meet at the Springbank Community Centre

   32224A Springbank Rd, Calgary, AB T3Z 2L9

•   We will ride on various roads in the Springbank area

WHEN

•   Session 1 - Back to the Basics - Tuesday April 11, 2017

 •   Session 2 - Let’s Talk Tactics - Tuesday May 2, 2017

•   6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

•   Following the sessions, we invite you to join Troy and Suzanne to have an informal Q&A session over a refreshing beverage.
